Setting Up Netscape

  1. Double click on the Netscape icon to start Netscape.
  2. From Netscape's menu bar, click on Window, select Mail & Newsgroups.
  3. If your prompted for a mail password, just click cancel.
  4. From the File menu, select New and then Account.
  5. Select Newsgroup account.
  6. Enter your name and email address when prompted, please use your real name.
  7. The Newsgroup server should be news.
  8. The account name can be news.
  9. Click finish. Now the news server is set up, we just need to subscribe to the course newsgroup.
  10. Click news from the left hand pane, this is the news server we just configured.
  11. Click Subscribe to newsgroups
  12. Find the course newsgroup, which is named uw.cs.cs124 and click the subscribed box.
  13. Click ok. Now your subscribed to the newsgroup.

    14. Reading News

    From the Netscape Newsgroup window,

    1. Click on the + beside the news.math to see a list of newsgroups you subscribed to.
    2. Click on uw.cs.cs124 to see all the messages posted to the newsgroup.
    3. Select a message header and the body will appear in the bottom frame.

    To learn more how to use Netscape Navigator, News and Email, go to the Help option in the menu bar, and select Handbook. This will take you to the Netscape Online Handbook. Go to the section entitled Tutorial, and click on the underlined text that you want to view.
