These steps are part of the larger task of Importing source files into a warehouse source or Importing target files into a warehouse target. When you complete the steps for Specifying pre- and post- access commands, return to Importing source files into a warehouse source or Importing target files into a warehouse target.
Use this window to specify any pre-access and post-access commands needed to access the local flat file you want to include in the warehouse source. This window is displayed for flat file warehouse sources or targets only.
Occasionally, it can take a long time to promote a step that uses a flat file source. To shorten the time required to promote this type of step:
If the flat file is 20 MB or less, store the flat file on an FTP site and define the file as a Remote source. When you promote the step that uses this source to test status, the flat file is transferred to a temporary file on the Windows NT agent.
If the flat file is larger than 20 MB, define the file as a Local source. Use two different steps to access a flat file of this size. Configure the first step to use the VWPRCPY program. Use this step to copy the flat file to the agent site. Configure the second step to use the warehouse source that you create in this notebook for the flat file. This step will access the flat file as a local file.
Click Advanced. The Advanced window opens.
In the Pre-access command field, type the command that you use to access a local file.
In the Post-access command field, type the command that you use after you access the file.
Click OK to save your changes and close the window.
