These steps are part of the larger task of Importing source files into a warehouse source. When you complete the steps for Specifying the information to access a remote file, return to Importing source files into a warehouse source.
Use the this window to specify any information needed to access the remote flat file you want to include in the warehouse source. This window is displayed for flat file warehouse sources only.
Occasionally, it can take a long time to promote a step that uses a flat file source. To shorten the time required to promote this type of step:
If the flat file is 20 MB or less, store the flat file on an FTP site and define the file as a Flat File - Remote source. When you promote the step that uses this source to test status, the flat file is transferred to a temporary file on the Windows NT agent.
If the flat file is larger than 20 MB, define the file as a Flat File - Local source. Use two different steps to access a flat file of this size. Configure the first step to use the VWPRCPY program. Use this step to copy the flat file to the agent site. Configure the second step to use the warehouse source that you create in this notebook for the flat file. This step will access the flat file as a local file.
Click Advanced. The Advanced window opens.
In the System name field, type the fully qualified name of the FTP host or a TCP/IP address. If the name server that is local to the agent site can resolve the host domain qualifiers, you can type the host name only.
In the User ID field, type the user ID used to access the FTP site where the file resides. For some operating systems (such as UNIX), the user ID is case sensitive.
In the Password field, type the password used to access the FTP site. The password is case sensitive.
In the Verify password field, type the password used to access the FTP site again to verify the password you typed in the Password field.
Click OK to save your changes and close the window.
