Technical Status Report - 97Q3

         Progress Report

         In  the  period  October  1st  -  December  30  1996  our primary
         activities  involved  supporting  our  public World Wide Web beta
         trial,  enhancing our demonstration at this site, and documenting
         the results of our research.



         Achievements

         In the past quarter we have enhanced our online demonstration, so
         that   the   University   of  Waterloo  calendar  was  integrated
         seamlessly  with  the corresponding University of Waterloo course
         schedule  information.  This effectively demonstrates the ability
         of  our  HQP  to  integrate  SGML text and Oracle relational data
         under a common federated database system (820/895).

         We  continued to assist Grafnetix, in the installation of our HQP
         software at their site (395/820).

         We  chaired the HQP working group meeting on October 22, 1996 and
         prepared  minutes  of  this meeting.  As part of this activity we
         reviewed   and  provided  continuing  feedback  on  the  Fulcrum,
         Grafnetix, and OpenText Beta trials (395/895).

         We  met  on  December  11,  1996 with Sean Johnston to review our
         contribution  to  CSSC, and provided a brief demonstration of the
         capabilities  of  our  software.   Sean  also briefly audited our
         financial records.

         We   are  currently  in  the  process  of  preparing  papers  for
         publication.


         Problem review

         We  encountered no significant problems impacting on our progress
         during the last quarter.


         Coming events plan

         Biweekly  meetings  of  the  research group within the University
         will continue throughout the next period.

         We  will  be  involved  in  the  meeting  on January 13th/14th in
         Ottawa, to demonstrate the results of our research, and to review
         the status of our collective efforts.
