The Puppet Master

The Puppet Master

The last time I did a puppet scene ( W01 Screening room), Steve had this idea about puppets lining up to buy tickets instead of actually watching a movie. When I was still deciding whether to make a picture or not, Steve made such a good suggestion for a movie starring Mike that I couldn't resist. So despite the fact I was unable to sucker anybody into helping me, here is The Puppet Master (movie poster available here).

As in previous terms (S00 and F00), the puppets were first posed and positioned using a previewer, after which the entire scene is ray-traced by my ray tracer. I missed my flunkies. A few puppets have extra primitives that my ray raytracer does not support, so they get to star in an upcoming movie. I also had to add in transparency so I can have glass in the ticket booth.

The entire scene rendered in 37:03 minutes with hierachical bounding spheres on an SGI PC running Debian Linux, which raytraces about 3 times faster than an octane. I hope this picture will serve as an inspiration for better A4 images.
