CS 492/CS 692 W03 Role-Playing Exercise 9

Limiting the Use of Intelligent Software

Team A: A group of concerned computer scientists who feel that certain applications of computer software allow for too much reasoning and action on the part of the computer. They are concerned that this may result in fatal outcomes, with no possibility for human intervention. They propose that legislation be established to limit the potential use of intelligent software and that any violation of these laws be subject to fine and imprisonment.

Team B: A group of artificial intelligence researchers who believe that it is vital to the growth of their discipline to have absolutely no limits on the nature of the applications being developed within the field. They believe that any individual or company desiring the use of intelligent systems be allowed to do so, assuming for themselves the responsibility for any possible undesirable outcomes.
