CS 492/CS 692 W04 Role-Playing Exercise 5

Distance learning via the Internet

Team A

A group of reform-minded educators who think that the Internet makes obsolete the notion of students coming to class to sit in lectures. They advocate a multimedia approach, using the Internet to deliver text, audio, and video materials to both traditional (on-campus) and nontraditional students (off-campus, mature, employed full-time).

Team B

A group of tenured professors who feel that there is no substitute for learning with face-to-face contact between instructor and student. They point out the limited success of videoconference learning, and worry about the distractions and diversions of the new technological toys.
