CS 492/CS 692 W13 Role-Playing Exercise 8

Ensuring appropriate work-life balance

Team A

A group of advocates for healthy living who maintain that the proliferation of mobile handheld devices within organizations has led to the erosion of family time and undue stress, forcing employees to be "always on" and thus distracted from duties that take place outside the typical 9-5 working day. They propose that organizations provide clearly set downtimes for connections to the workplace, to enable employees to ramp down their stress and to have time to focus on family issues, without repercussion.

Team B

A group of organizational leaders who maintain that mobile devices and the ability to connect to employees at opportune times for business (together with the growing borderless gathering of business associates) require that employees make themselves available at times that promote optimal business practices. While they acknowledge the need for some leisure time for all employees, they oppose being requried to respect strict terms and conditions for contact.
