Team ASecurity professionals and government intelligence experts want to require that all programably secure electronic communication devices be equipped with features that allow security officials to unlock the devices and read the unencrypted content of the devices, in the case that a Federal Court judge has determined that the information may be of immediate use, for instance in the protection of national security.
Team BA group of citizens who worry that equipping all programmable electronic devices with a `back door' feature may have unintended consequences; for instance, making the devices far less secure for citizens and users for whom the security features are meant to protect their privacy. The group argues that making all such devices un-lockable oversteps the boundary of what is necessary to protect citizens and residents of Canada, and infringes on the safety and security of their personal communication.
