Assignment 5 is due on Monday, April 10th, AOE, in the learn dropbox. You have two options.
Option 1. This assignment is in regard to computer programs and/or computer systems. Several of the readings this term have involved actions and/or decisions by companies and/or governments that have eroded public trust in the companies or governments and the computer systems they use or produce.
Briefly describe and comment on one of the situations and what aspect of the public trust you see as having been eroded. Could the erosion in public trust have been forseen? Could the problem have been been avoided?
Option 2. Write about some aspect of the Social Implications of Computing that you find particularly compelling. Connect your essay to one or more of the readings for the course.
For either option, your essay should have a title and it should be largely self contained; that is, please explain the context and any assumptions needed to understand the points you are making. Your essay should be approx. 1000 words. (Your essay should be different from any previously written material you have submitted for this course.) Provide bibliographic information (references) as needed.
The purpose of the essay is to discuss some important social implication of computing that you find particularly compelling.
