CS886 - Fall 2017 - Topics in AI: AI and Philosophy - Individual Project

For the individual project, each student must do the following:
i) select a particular philosopher to study and extract some key
elements of his/her proposed philosophy
ii) select a particular AI concept or theory which can be altered
in view of the philosophy in focus in i)
iii) describe how the AI concept or theory would be changed, in some
detail, using examples to illustrate contexts where novel interpretations
or conclusions would be reached
iv) reflect on the ways in which the novel AI theory in iii) offer
improvements to the current AI theory which has been adjusted and altered.

The writeup should be on the order of 5000 words (10 pages).
This is not a hard limit but projects which are too long may
be challenging to read and those which are too short may fail to
demonstrate sufficiently well the talent and depth of understanding
of the student.

Organize your project into subsections, with subheadings.
There are no constraints on how you are to organize the project
but including the following is advisable:
i) a subsection that describes the philosophy theory being used
ii) a subsection describing the AI concept or theory, in its
current incarnation, which the project aims to adjust
iii) a subsection outlining the altered AI theory
iv) a subsection covering reflection, discussion and conclusions

The project is due on December 4 at 9am: hardcopy handed in, in class or
before this time to my mailbox at the CS Main Office (near DC2326); softcopy sent as well.
