A small percentage of your class mark will be based on Web-based
reviews
that test your understanding of the assigned reading. The
assigned
reading may be chapters in your IPE text, in the Dupré writing
text, or
both. The intentions of these reviews are twofold: (1) to
cover material on general profession engineering, so that we can spend
lecture time discussing how the material relates to software
engineering
and looking at case studies; and (2) to cover the material on grammar
and writing in a relatively painless way. You may work on a
review in pairs, assuming that you work through the review together and
discuss the answers, rather than simply divvying up the work;
regardless of whether you work with someone, you will need to submit
your own review to get credit for the work.
You can access web-based reviews via the SE 101 announcements page. You will be prompted for your UWdir userid and password. The reviews are un-timed, and you should be able to revisit and change your answers to questions before finally submitting your review answers.
Web-based reviews will have a deadline of Mondays at 5:00 p.m., and will generally be available starting the previous Thursday.
There will be eight web-based reviews over the course of the term. I will use your seven best review marks in the calculation of your course mark. This way, you can miss a review for any reason, whether it be intentional, unintentional, or unavoidable, and not have it count against your mark.
