Exams
Exam Policies and
Missed Examinations
You are
required to show your UW Student ID card at all
exams.
All exams will be
closed book. Calculators are not permitted.
If you are unable to
write the midterm exam due to illness
or a major family emergency (such as death or serious injury to
member
of immediate family):
- You must bring complete medical documentation or documentation
of
family emergency to the Instructional Support Coordinator
(DC3138) or
Instructor as soon as physically possible.
- There will be no makeup exam. Instead, an alternate weighting
scheme (resulting in a 60% final exam) will normally apply.
If you are unable to
write the final exam due to illness:
- You should seek medical treatment and provide confirmation of
the illness to the instructor(s) within 48 hours by submitting a
completed University of Waterloo Verification of Illness Form to
support your request for accommodation due to illness. The
University of Waterloo Verification of Illness Form is normally
the only acceptable medical documentation and is available on
line.
- There will be no makeup exam. Normally you will receive an INC
(incomplete), and must write the final exam in a subsequent
term.
Exam Grading and
Appeals
The entire course
staff, which is divided into teams, marks exams;
each team is responsible for one question. This is done to provide
as
much consistency as possible. For this reason, an individual TA or
instructor may not be familiar with the marking details of every
question on the exam. The following procedures are set up to
facilitate
the appeal process:
- Any clerical errors (such as incorrect addition) may be
brought
to the attention of any course staff member.
- If you have any questions, comments or complaints concerning
the
marking of exams that involve the subjective judgement of the
marker,
you may submit your exam (with an attached note describing your
concern) to any staff member by the established deadline. Please
be
aware that there is a possibility that your grade will be
lowered.
- Final exams are not returned to students. University
regulations
provide procedures for appealing marking decisions on final
exams.
