I learned how to make drop boxes for submission of deliverables. So we will not be needing the e-mail submission of deliverables. I will update all deliverable specifications soon. Hurray!
If you meet the conditions of the original in which your N is between 1 and 30, inclusive and you have self registered at the SE490 Learn site, then you are officially done and do not have to do any more. HOWEVER, it is to YOUR benefit to do the additional steps in this revised description, namely that of (1) self-registering your group ALSO as Specification Group N at the SE463 Learn site and (2) submitting your abstract to the Deliverable 0 drop box associated with Specification Group N.
The reason it's to YOUR benefit is that we will use the SE463 Learn site registrations and abstracts to allow each TA to bid on groups that E believes that E has the expertise to advise well. If your abstract is not there, where it is easily examined by the TAs, we will assign your group to a random TA.
Likewise, if you meet the conditions of the original in which your N is between 31 and 40, inclusive, and you have self registered as Specification Group N at the SE463 Learn site and have e-mailed your abstract, you are officially done and do not have to do any more. It will greatly simplify things if you would submit your abstract again to the Deliverable 0 drop box associated with Specification Group N.
Please do these additional steps by 5:00pm Wednesday 10 September so that we can start the TA assignment process ASAP.
On the SE463 Learn site, self register your SE463 specification group, which is generally your SE490 design team, and upload your group's project abstract to the specification group's drop box for Deliverable 0.
The registration is needed so that your group can receive grades for its deliverables and so that we can try to assign to your group a TA that has some knowledge of your project.
This group registration and deliverable uploading are the only points at which we will be using Learn in this course.
If
you are an SE490 student now or were in the Spring term
or
are part of a design team that has members that are taking
SE490 now or took it in the Spring,
then
you are a member of an SE490 design team that already has a
team number, N.
If
it is you that is in SE490 now,
then
you got N on 8 September 2025.
else
ask your teammates what N is.
fi
In either of these circumstances, the number of your SE463
specification group is N,
which is a number between 1 and 30, inclusive.
else
the number of your SE463 specification group is an N,
that is a number between 31 and 40, inclusive, and
that is not yet taken by any other group.
fi
Together with your groupmates, go to the SE463 Learn site and
self register the group as Specification Group N.
Write a one-page abstract describing the system that your group
will be specifying and
upload the abststract as a PDF document to Specification Group N's
Deliverable 0 dropbox.
See below about the contents of the abstract.
The deadline for self-enrolling in your SE463 specification group on the SE463 Learn site (or having done the original instructions) is Wednesday, 10 September at 5:00 PM. If you fail to do so by that deadline you will receive a 5% penalty on your final course grade, provided you do this by midnight on the same day. Failure to get it done by midnight will result in an additional 2% penalty per day on your final course grade.
The abstract is a not-more-than-one-page elevator pitch that tells a potential investor enough detail about the use of the features of your capstone project that E can decide whether to invest.
It must be submitted in PDF format.
Many SE490 teams will have an abstract from before. In that case, use it; if you want to update it, please do so!
If you don't have an abstract for whatever reason, then make one up. It doesn't matter that it will change, because, it's the basis for the first three deliverables. Historically, what is learned doing these first deliverables ends up causing changes to the abstract.
