If you are unsure what to do, you should e-mail the Instructional Support Coordinator (ISC) as soon as possible. Waiting until after your situation has passed may mean we cannot provide a suitable accommodation.
Do not contact course instructors or ISAs for accommodation requests.
All such requests must go through the course ISC.
Please include in your email to the course ISC the course and the assessment(s)
you are requesting an accommodation for. There are no automatic accommodations in this course.
If for any reason you are unable to submit an assignment on Crowdmark, e-mail the assignment to the course ISC and they can upload your assignment for you.
If you declare a 48-hour absence on Quest, afterwards e-mail the course ISC to receive a 48-hour extension on an affected assignment.
For the midterm, its weight is shifted onto the final exam portion of the grade.
There is no accommodation for missed lecture clicker questions or tutorial questions since the course policy
has a built-in accommodation for possible absences throughout the term.
Note: COVID-declarations have been discontinued as of Spring 2025.
A Verification of Condition (VOC) Form (formerly VIF) is required for accommodations
due to medical conditions that may impact a student's ability to participate in academic activities.
Examples include illnesses, fractures, strains, concussions, and other conditions with varying degrees of incapacitation.
The form is located at
https://uwaterloo.ca/students/health-and-well-being/verification-condition-voc-services.
The site also includes instructions on how the VOC is to be completed and submitted.
You must e-mail the course ISC after you have completed and submitted the VOC to the Absence Database. Only after the VOC has been registered online will an accommodation be granted.
If you suffer from a power outage that prevents you from doing coursework, you should e-mail the course ISC including your power company, your location, and the time of the outage. Most power companies will post on their webpage or on social media about outages that we can confirm with. If possible, please send links to such posts.
CS 251 is an in-person course. There are no online course options for CS 251. You are expected to be attending lectures on campus for the duration of the term.
For emergencies requiring you to leave Waterloo for an extended period, you should contact the course ISC and provide formal documentation of the emergency.
For all other scenarios where a student cannot complete coursework, e-mail the Instructional Support Coordinator
and explain your situation.
Note: Formal documentation of some sort is needed.
Please include such documentation if possible when contacting the course ISC (or arrange to submit such documentation later on).
Requests without some kind of formal documentation will not be granted.
We do NOT provide accommodations for workload from other courses you are taking. You are expected to find the time in your schedule to work on CS 251.
