Dismissal

It has happened in the past that some teams are so poorly structured that they cannot accomplish their work. Sometimes this comes from the deficiencies of a single individual; e.g. a member that does not fulfill responsibilities, does shoddy work, is unreliable. Single individuals can be dismissed from a team only after a meeting has been held at which the individual is informed of problems and given a week to correct the situation. The instructor is to be advised of the meeting, and its reasons, in writing. If the situation does not improve, The instructor is to be informed, again in writing, that the individual has been discharged from the team. The instructor, after having conferred with those involved, will reduce the extent of the project that the team must accomplish and determine what work the individual should carry out on his/her own.

It may also happen that a team splits into factions that are unable to work productively together. Any team suffering this problem is to schedule a meeting with the instructor to negotiate the termination of the team's existence and an arrangement of work to be accomplished separately.

It should be understood, however, that the responsibility for the continued success of a team lies with all the individuals in it. Dismissal and team termination cannot help but reflect negatively to some degree in the grades of all those involved. The dismissal of an individual or the termination of a team is not a decision to be taken until all other avenues of repair have been explored.
