CS 146: Elementary Algorithm Design and Data Abstraction (Advanced Version)

Grading

The grading scheme for CS 146 in Winter 2024, if the term goes according to plan with all assessments completed in person, is as follows:

  • Assignments: 20%
  • Quizzes: 5%
  • Midterm Exam: 25%
  • Final Exam: 50%

If the midterm is cancelled, but not the final, the midterm's weighting will be redistributed:

  • Assignments: 27%
  • Quizzes: 5%
  • Final Exam: 68%

Similarly, if the final is cancelled, but not the midterm, then the final's weighting will be redistributed:

  • Assignments: 38%
  • Quizzes: 5%
  • Midterm Exam: 57%
If both in-person assessments are cancelled, and without enough notice to for us to implement alternative assessments, then both their weightings will be redistributed:
  • Assignments: 95%
  • Quizzes: 5%

On the other hand, if the course moves to be completely online early enough in the term, then we will implement an alternative final assessment, under the following scheme:

  • Assignments: 60%
  • Quizzes: 5%
  • Final Assessment: 35%

Each assignment is weighted uniformly within its category.

There are more details about the reasons for these weightings on the Assignments and Exams pages.
