Week 1 To-Do’s
Readings
Starting next week, each student must individually select at least one starred item and at least one other item from that week’s reading list to read/watch. This week’s readings are optional (but strongly recommended). More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 1c.
Complete ethics training
Each student must individually complete the TCPS2 Core ethics tutorial. The tutorial takes 2-3 hours to complete. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 1a.
Review course website
Visit the project page on the course website. Review the project themes and topics on the course website.
Form a team!
Find students to join your team, or find a team to join. This is probably easiest during the studio portion of the first class, but you can also use the “Find a team” channel in the 449/649 MS Teams.
Conduct your first team meeting to discuss project themes and topics and rank topics your team would like to work on. Designate one person from the group to submit the finalized team information using the Project Team Information form. With your team, begin developing a team contract by answering a set of questions about how your team will function this term. This is very important for maintaining a good team culture and working together effectively. More details available on the Deliverables page under Deliverable 1b.
Check your design document
Each team must maintain a document of their design process of the project by updating the document weekly. Soon after you submit your Project Team Information form, your online design document will be created and shared with all your team members (as well as TAs and the instructor). Check your email inbox! More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 2a.
Acquire technologies and materials
Download the Microsoft Teams app and log in to the CS449/649 Teams Workspace (you should be automatically added). Download the Zoom app (recommended and supported by UWaterloo) or other video conferencing software. Links are available on the Home page.
You will need Figma starting next week and Miro in week 4. These are easy-to-use and powerful tools for design teams. Getting familiarized with them as soon as possible will help you a lot both in this course and your future design/development! Sign up for an account for both Miro and Figma using your UWaterloo email, and apply for their Education plans:
