Week 8 To-Do’s
Readings
Each student must individually select at least one starred item and at least one other item from this week’s reading list to read/watch. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 1c.
Create low-fidelity prototypes
As a team, choose two of the user flows you completed last week that are most important and/or most risky in terms of the user interface. These are the ideas/features you will prototype and test.
For one of your chosen user flows, create a paper prototype that can be made interactive using a “human computer” (i.e. not Figma). Follow the methods and guidelines for paper prototyping in the lecture notes. You can use this printable frame for phone or web applications.
For the other user flow you chose, create a low-fidelity wireframe prototype using Figma. You can draw the wireframes by hand on paper and photograph them, but it is likely easier to use the basic Figma drawing tools (rectangles, circles, etc.). Use the Figma Prototype tab to make your wireframes interactive.
Your design document should include:
- Pictures or screenshots of all the elements of your two paper prototypes. You can combine all parts of each prototype into one image, or split the prototype components into multiple images. As long as it’s clear and legible.
- Clear descriptive captions for each paper prototype photo or screenshot. Include a shared link to the Figma file for your wireframe prototype.
- A 250 - 500 word writeup justifying why you chose the two user flows to prototype, any general description about how you made the prototypes, and some reflection about the process of creating these two types of low-fidelity prototypes.
Team meeting and design document
Conduct this week’s team meeting or discussion in and/or out of class. Update your design document with the meeting minutes and the outcomes of this week’s activities. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 2a.
Respond to the design critique for your midterm report
Read the actionable recommendations provided by the other team and write short responses on how to incorporate the recommendations in the future. For the recommendations that you think are not reasonable and impossible to address, provide rationales. For more details and how to submit see the grading page under Deliverable 2c.
