Week 4 To-Do’s

Readings

Each student must individually select at least one starred item and at least one other item from this week’s reading list to read/watch. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 1c.

Create an affinity diagram from video observations

Make an affinity diagram based on observations of 3 videos of people unpacking and using a hoverboard (a link to the videos will be posted in Teams). Each team member should watch all the videos and create notes (i.e. “data items”) about what the person says, does, and feels in each video. Then, as a team, bring all your notes together to create a single affinity diagram in Miro (or using real sticky notes). Use the process described in lecture and choose one colour-coding scheme to use for your data items (e.g. types of observations, AEIOU observations, or which video the observation is from). Your design document should contain:

  1. An image of the affinity diagram (with link if on Miro). The caption should explain your colour coding.
  2. A 250 - 500 word writeup about the key themes and insights that were found by the affinity diagram process.

Use affinity mapping, POV, and HMW to analyze and synthesize your interviews

Make an affinity diagram based on the mock interview and the interviews you conducted with people outside of the class. First, each team member should individually read the raw interview notes and extract data items that they find important. Choose a colour coding for data items. Then, as a team, create a single affinity diagram using the process explaind in lecture. Based on your affinity diagram, personas, and empathy maps, create at least 2 POV statements and at least 3 HWM questions. Your design document should contain:

  1. An image of the affinity diagram (with link if on Miro). The caption should explain your colour coding.
  2. Your POV statements.
  3. Your HMW questions.
  4. A 250 - 500 word writeup about the key themes and insights that were found by the process.

Team meeting and design document

Conduct this week’s team meeting or discussion in and/or out of class. Update your design document with the meeting minutes and the outcomes of this week’s activities. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 2a.
