Week 5 To-Do’s
Readings
Each student must individually select at least one starred item and at least one other item from this week’s reading list to read/watch. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 1c.
Conduct hierarchical task analysis
Based on your interviews and the affinity diagram generated in week 4, define at least 3 key user goals. Follow the instructions in the lecture to conduct Hierarchical Task Analysis (HTA) for each goal. Each HTA should have approximately 3 to 5 subtasks per parent task, 2 to 3 levels in total, and remember that not all task steps will have subtasks (see “HTA Stopping Point and Scope” in lecture). Each HTA should have at least 1 plan to capture alternate or conditional task flows. Update your design document with:
- An image of each HTA (with link if on Miro). The caption should provide the user goal for the HTA.
- A 250 - 500 word writeup about key themes and insights that were found by the HTA process.
Conduct design arguments
After you complete all HTAs, follow the instructions in the lecture to create 4 - 5 design argument statements. Update your design document with:
- An image of your features/ideas on stickies with team votes after step 3 is completed (with link if on Miro).
- The 4 to 5 design argument statements, each approximately 3 - 5 sentences (see “Design Argument Artifact” in lecture).
Team meeting and design document
Conduct this week’s team meeting or discussion in and/or out of class. Update your design document with the meeting minutes and the outcomes of this week’s activities. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 2a.
Think about drafting your midterm report
The midterm report will due in about two weeks. It is always better to do everything earlier such as starting to polish the results in your design document, write an outline of the report, reflect on the past design stages, and prepare figures or illustrations. The workload of future weeks may increase. More details are available on the Information page under Deliverable 2b.
Due next week
- Week 5 reading reflections (1c)
- Design document section #4 (2a)
